One of the fastest growing segments of the community is organized sports; adult and youth. Twenty-four tennis courts, two public swimming pools, two public golf courses, dozens of neighborhood swim clubs, eight gymnasiums, sixteen softball fields, twelve soccer fields and even a six-acre equestrian center are all part of this community’s intricate tapestry of recreational opportunities.

Walnut Creek's 11 city parks are home to basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball and swimming teams. Leisure Services offers recreational and educational classes for residents of all ages. The Aquanuts Synchronized Swim Team, 1996 Olympic Gold Medallists, trained at the Clarke Memorial Swim Center in Heather Farm Park. Each year, thousands use the aquatic facilities as a regular part of their fitness regime. The new Tice Valley Gym, built by the city in partnership with the Jewish Community Center, is equipped with state-of-the-art aerobic studios, classrooms, basketball courts and outdoor facilities.

If tennis is your game, reserving a court in Walnut Creek is easy. Walnut Creek has more than two dozen public courts spread among five parks throughout the city. Horse lovers enjoy the Equestrian Center of Walnut Creek, a six-acre public riding and training facility. Castle Rock Arabians, an Arabian horse ranch, also has riding lessons and summer horse camps providing fun for the whole family. Golfers find plenty of action in a stunning setting at the 18-hole Boundary Oak Golf Course with hilltop views of Walnut Creek. Or for those interested in taking their lunch break on the links, Diablo Hills Country Club has a 9-hole course a short chip shot from downtown.
